In the late 1980s, Rwandan singer Bizimungu Dieudonne and his wife Agnes Uwimbabazi, along with a backing band, self-released the cassette Inzovu Y’imirindi. Their music was a unique blend of 80s studio techniques and traditional Rwandan praise songs, creating hypnotic jams featuring electric guitars and call-and-response vocals. The lyrics praised nature and ancient gods, and also included urgent calls for national unity. Tragically, this message became a premonition of the Rwandan Genocide: in 1994, Bizimungu, Agnes, and their bandmates were killed by Hutu militias. Starting in 2018, the label, interested in their lost music, began a search and eventually collaborated with Noella—Bizimungu and Agnes' daughter—to recover the master recordings of Inzovu Y’imirindi. The album has been beautifully remastered at Osiris Studios and is set for release, sharing the musicians' vital legacy with the world.
