Never Turn Your Back On A Friend is the third studio album by Welsh hard rock band Budgie, released in June 1973 on MCA Records. The album continues to develop the combination of hard rock and progressive elements established in their earlier works. It features seven tracks, the most notable of which are the opening track "Breadfan" and the ten-minute epic composition "Parents". The album was recorded by the trio consisting of Burke Shelley (vocals, bass), Tony Bourge (guitar), and Ray Phillips (drums). The album cover was created by artist Roger Dean, known for his work with Yes and Asia. The album is considered a key proto-metal release and had a significant influence on subsequent generations of bands, particularly those in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) and American thrash metal acts such as Metallica.
