Award-winning drummer, producer, and composer Sarathy Korwar is set to release his seventh album, There Is Beauty, There Already, on November 7, 2025, on his newly launched label Otherland. The album is a deeply immersive, 40-minute longform suite of percussion-led compositions celebrating the melodic power of the drum ensemble. Recorded with drummers Photay, Magnus Mehta, and Joost Hendrickx at Real World Studios, the work is built on hypnotic and transcendent drum improvisations featuring a repetitive, circular structure that evokes Indian folk music, jazz ensembles like Max Roach’s M'Boom, and the minimalism of Terry Riley and Steve Reich. Korwar, known for previous work addressing themes of migration and futurism and the recipient of multiple awards including the 2020 AIM Award and the 2023 Songlines Award for KALAK, describes this album as a return to his core as a drummer and an expression of how melodic and emotive percussion can be. Musically, it blends traditional Indian instruments like the tabla and ghatam with the drum kit and electronic textures via the Buchla Easel. Conceived as a riposte to flitting attention spans, the album is designed to be played as a singular piece, exploring rhythm as trance and transformation through repetition. The release will be accompanied by an exclusive show at the London Jazz Festival where Korwar will perform with an ensemble of a dozen drummers.
