Norwegian folk musician Susanne Lundeng, highly regarded for her distinctive sound and a Spellemannspris winner, is set to release her 14th album, "De salige" ("The Blessed"), on August 8th. The project stems from her deep longing to "play again" with the elders she learned from in her youth in the Northern Norway region. The album is a creative collaboration where Lundeng, guitarist Nils-Olav Johansen, and sound engineer Are Bredal Simonsen utilize and process (cut/sample) older archive recordings of fiddlers and women's voices from Salten and Lofoten. By using these sonic fragments, Lundeng composed new melodies that allow the voices of the past to keep their individuality while performing entirely new music, with minimal exceptions from traditional sources. Lundeng's music, described as melancholic, tender, and stormy, explores the drama of life and the landscape, and her compositions reflect the stylistic features of the Nordland tradition.
