Julien Dubois - Le JarDin - Le Soi et l'Autre (2025)

In *Self and Other*, the second album by JarDin, Julien Dubois explores the notion of otherness, reminds us of the need to consider the non-self, and reflects on the bonds that unite us. This exploration, offering a perspective on the contemporary world, addresses themes of empathy, listening, inclusion, and shared values—all of which Julien Dubois wishes to place at the heart of his artistic expression. JarDin's second repertoire was created during a residency at the Théâtre des Quatre Saisons in Gradignan. Julien Dubois developed a style of writing for small ensembles, enriching the orchestra's timbral palette through the integration of acoustic piano and violin. For these new compositions, he collaborated with unique individuals. The harmonic and rhythmic richness of Jean-Luc Lehr, Maïlys Maronne, and Maxime Zampieri, along with the lyricism of violinist Alba Obert in counterpoint to the saxophone, create the identity of this new exploration. Julien Dubois invites Swiss-American saxophonist Maria Grand. Active on the New York scene for over ten years, her world enriches the poetic intention of the album.
