This reissue allows listeners to savor the pure sonic glory of tracks such as “There’s a Creature in the Surfer’s Lagoon,” which likely influenced The Cramps. Speculation about the performers on the anonymous Halloween concept album is common, but the most likely suspect is legendary guitarist Joe South, who penned five of the numbers and recorded the 1958 hit “The Purple People Eater Meets the Witch Doctor.”
