Summary (in English): The album Mongkok Duel is a collaboration between the duos Gong Gong Gong from Beijing and Mong Tong from Taipei, both known for their cinematic, raw sound, which merges transglobal melodies with powerful grooves. This joint project creates an imagined soundtrack for a lost kung-fu film, encompassing themes of honor, intrigue, and revenge. The album evolves from Gong Gong Gong’s "Rhythm n’ Drone" collaborative series, merging the distinctive aesthetics of both groups through cyclical motorik rhythms, evolving drones, textural sound effects, and snarling guitar and bass hooks. Mongkok Duel was written and recorded live at the historic President Piano Co. rehearsal rooms in Mongkok, Hong Kong, utilizing the studio's own vintage instruments and amplifiers dating back to 1978. A unique recording system designed by the owner, Mr. Lee King Yat, gives the album its distinct vintage sound while maintaining impressive clarity.
