The debut album by indie rock duo The Arms of Someone New, SUSAN SLEEPWALKING, originally released in 1985, is being re-released in a deluxe 3-part remastered edition for its 40th anniversary. The album, which was originally available on the band's own Office Records label, blends alternative college-rock, ethereal post-punk, and gloomy dream pop to create a "spellbinding moody masterpiece" for "insomniacs and night owls." The re-release includes the original album, a second disc with 24 never-before-heard tracks, including demos and bonus tracks from the 1985 EP BURYING THE CARNIVAL and the 1984 single HOLY DANCE. The third part is a new album, SUSAN DREAMING, where band members Steve Jones and Mel Eberle reimagine 10 of the original tracks as an atmospheric electronic experiment. The duo, formed in 1983 in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, is known for their introspective artistry, marked by minimalist synthesizers, vintage drum machines, and atmospheric guitars, drawing comparisons to early The Cure and Echo & the Bunnymen. Jones, who remastered the album, expressed excitement about using new digital tools and plans to remaster the band's two other albums and create new music. Despite never achieving mass-market fame, SUSAN SLEEPWALKING has maintained a loyal following that appreciates its "delicate melancholy and timeless beauty."
