Montreal-based multi-instrumentalist Ourielle Auvé, known as Ouri, has released her sophomore solo album Daisy Cutter, an enveloping ambient anthology that fuses analogue instrumentation with digital technologies. Over her nearly decade-long career, Ouri, a classically-trained electroacoustic composer, has developed a fluid and instinctual sonic world. The album, which resists being pigeonholed into a single genre, swirls through down-tempo progressions, industrial textures, and orchestral scores, utilizing instruments such as cello, harp, synthesizers, and steel guitar. Daisy Cutter, which feels like a tactile project down to the braille on the cover, is composed of 13 abstract, spacey compositions that forgo traditional song structures. The album's energy, which resembles a DJ mix, builds to the climax "Droplets in the Air" and then gradually comes down, reflecting Ouri's experience in Montreal's nightlife scene. The project also features collaborations with artists like Charlotte Day Wilson, Oli XL, and Bamao Yendé, and showcases Ouri's wide range of influences. With Daisy Cutter, Ouri expresses vulnerability, asserting that some feelings are better communicated through pitches than words.
