Musicians Erwan Hamon (wooden flute) and Yousef Zayed (oud and percussion) met in 2015 and formed an instrumental duo with the aim of blending the musical traditions of Palestine and Brittany, focusing on their own compositions. The duo employs a monodic approach, emphasizing the melodic-rhythmic essence of traditional music, and their repertoire alternates between the influences of Palestinian Arabic music and Breton folk music. Their performance relies on playing with timbres, including the subtlety of the oud, the overtones of the flute, and the dynamism of the riq, as well as utilizing both tempered and untempered modes. The album title "Tamas lier" (meaning 'contact' or 'confluence' in Arabic) reflects Hamon and Zayed's ambition to create a unified, unique musical statement that blurs the lines of geographic origin between two initially distant traditions. The 13-track recording, mainly comprising their compositions and some traditional pieces, was made in May 2021 in the upper hall of the Tour du Fer à Cheval in the Château des Ducs de Bretagne in Nantes, with an emphasis on natural acoustic sound.
