Mika Urbaniak - Closer (2009)

Mika Urbaniak's "Closer" is undoubtedly the most anticipated debut on the Polish scene this year. The singer has already demonstrated her considerable talent in numerous collaborations, including as a full-time collaborator with Andrzej Smolik.

Mika Urbaniak wasn't in a hurry to break into the spotlight. Only finding a partner in Englishman Troy Miller (a musician from Amy Winehouse's band) resulted in a solo album. Being the daughter of renowned jazz musicians Michał Urbaniak and Urszula Dudziak certainly made her start easier, but it's difficult to find any musical similarities. Her songs are world-class pop, with a slightly jazzy tinge. The result is a very upbeat album, captivating with its effortless melodicism, perfect for summer.---Grzegorz Dusza
