Mentana - Les Frolics (2025) [Hi-Res]

Mentana - Les Frolics (2025) [Hi-Res]

BAND/ARTIST: Mentana

Les Frolics is the third studio album by Montreal folk band Mentana and their first entirely in French. The concept draws on the Acadian tradition of the “frolic” — communal work gatherings that end in lively feasts with music and dancing. Recorded live at the legendary Au Vieux Treuil venue in the Magdalen Islands, the sessions brought together 19 musicians from across Canada and Louisiana. The album blends festive and narrative songs, from banjo- and fiddle-driven kitchen party tunes to reflective pieces about home landscapes, environmental concerns (such as clear-cutting in Tracadie), and cultural references (including a song about Carl Sagan). Several tracks (“Temps de chien (vent d’boutte)”, “J’veux du homard”) originated from the TV series Temps de chien, in which frontman Robin-Joël Cool also acted. The result is a warm, communal atmosphere steeped in Acadian heritage.
