"Flame In My Heart" is the debut album from the NYC-based duo Cool Whip, which consists of Gus Callahan and Anand Wilder (of the acclaimed indie-rock band Yeasayer). The project was born after Callahan, a longtime Yeasayer fan, sent Wilder a direct message with some demos, sparking their creative collaboration.
The album is a modern interpretation of '70s soft rock, AOR, and yacht rock. The music combines smooth melodies, rich harmonies, and polished sophisti-pop arrangements, but infuses them with weird, sometimes proggy and experimental elements that prevent it from being simple retro. The lyrics, written by Callahan, are inspired by his personal experiences, including reflections on his work as a carpenter. The album was recorded partly remotely and partly at Wilder's studio in NYC.
