Tuxis Giant - You Won’t Remember This (2025) Hi-Res

It’s interesting how artists perceive themselves, and prior to listening to this album, the band’s information on their Bandcamp page says, “sometimes quiet, sometimes loud”. It’s an astute overview of this band’s sound, and there’s a distinctive DIY feel to these songs. They bring up the feel of Clem Snide and SG Goodman. The vocals mix frontman Matt O’Connor’s moody and off-kilter vocals with Eleanor Elektra’s equally loose singing style.

The songs are brief and deeply emotional, dealing with highly personal subjects close to O’Connor’s heart. A typical example is ‘Heart Surgery’, which deals with the trauma O’Connor’s family were forced to deal with when his mother needed to have this treatment. But this is dealt with dark humour through a dreamy guitar shuffle with the lyrics like “when the doctor appeared we were insane, he had blood on his shoe”. Opener ‘Simple Days’ begins quietly before opening up with guitars and drums, and O’Connor almost whispers the vocals, portraying vivid emotional thoughts “brooding over the onions, oil snapping in the pan, a little cloud overhead, when you turn on the fan, baby, whatcha thinking?”.

‘Holy Water’ is a really strong song which starts gently with a drumbeat and guitar strumming before it develops into some gorgeous indie groove. Lovely stuff. Recent single ‘Silver Cup’ is another deeply personal song where O’Connor shares his experiences with gender dysphoria and the phenomenal transformation he felt. Again, it’s a gentle and dreamy song mixing lovely guitar work and strong drum beats.

This is an interesting album, brief but impactful, with slightly opaque yet heartfelt lyrics and a quirky, witty and intelligent feel that impresses. There’s even a song featuring Huey Lewis – what more could you want?
