"Fly" is the sophomore studio album from vocalist and composer Michael Mayo. In contrast to his debut album "Bones," which was more conceptual and intellectualized, "Fly" is an experiment in following one's first creative instinct. Michael Mayo himself describes this album as an effort to "let go" and not overthink every detail, which resulted in a feeling of immediacy and flight. The album is a masterful fusion of original compositions and jazz standards, such as "I Didn't Know What Time It Was" and "It Could Happen to You." The recording features contributions from his parents, veteran musicians Scott Mayo and Valerie Pinkston, alongside Mayo's own intricate vocal looping to create layered harmonies.
