Domenique Dumont’s fourth album Deux Paradis is another transportive collection of soft-focus dance music, rich with mystery and quiet wonder. It’s a ten-track song cycle that mirrors the rhythm of a day, a romance, or even a life – from the candy-striped dub of opener ‘Enchantia’ through the pixelated reggae bounce of ‘La Vie Va’ to the slow-fade seduction of ‘Visages Visages’, a sly nod to Desireless’s synth-pop classic.
Like an Éric Rohmer film scored with dubwise lullabies and baroque pop, the album conjures rituals and reveries across hazy timelines. There’s the glowing swirl of ‘Amants Ennemis’, the glistening twilight pop of ‘The Order of Invisible Things’, and the swooning title track, all laced with a bittersweet romanticism that feels both timeless and fleeting.
Following the solo score People on Sunday (2020), vocalist Anete Stuce returns, lending the project its signature blend of playfulness and poise. Together with producer Arturs Liepiņš, they complete a trilogy begun with Comme Ça (2015) and Miniatures De Auto Rhythm (2018) for Antinote. Deux Paradis was composed between 2022 and 2024 in Riga, Paris, and on Estonia’s Hiiumaa island.
