GIANT OPENING MOUTH ON THE GROUND is the result of a unique collaboration between Phil Elverum and Arrington de Dionyso, two experimental musicians from Washington. The album is a series of improvised instrumental compositions created using unconventional instruments: Elverum plays a self-made sound sculpture consisting of a giant gong connected to a subwoofer, while de Dionyso employs contrabass clarinet, lalove, and his voice. The music conveys a sense of primal power, as if the ground itself is opening up, with sounds emanating from the depths of a cave. It is both music and something beyond—a sonic landscape that immerses the listener in a trance-like state, evoking a sense of rupture from familiar reality. The album is filled with raw, untamed energy, creating a feeling of endless flow and the discovery of new horizons.
