Common Stars is a collaborative album by the Berlin-based Onom Agemo & The Disco Jumpers and Malian guitarist and vocalist Ahmed Ag Kaedy. It blends hypnotic afro-funk rhythms and psychedelic jazz with traditional desert blues. At its core is Kaedy’s distinctive, poetically urgent vocals, with lyrics rooted in Mali’s political and cultural realities, addressing themes of freedom, homeland, and identity amid the Tuareg struggle for cultural self-determination against conflict and music bans by Islamist groups. The album’s collective composition process lends it unique depth, merging minimalistic grooves with improvisational elements to create an immersive musical experience that is both danceable and contemplative.
