Saxophonist and composer Jonathan Moritz’s trio Secret Tempo, with Shayna Dulberger (double bass) and Mike Pride (drums), releases their second album Love You to Death. Rooted in jazz tradition yet boldly experimental, the album explores spontaneous interplay and emotional depth, balancing composition and improvisation. Moritz, playing solely tenor saxophone, crafts a sculptural sound with rich multiphonics and fiery bursts. The trio’s democratic approach blends swinging grooves, ethereal textures, and influences from jazz, punk, and classical. Tracks range from doomy blues to poetic ballads and exuberant swing, illustrated by Elodie Blanchard’s artwork. Moritz also curates the Prospect Series, fostering experimental music in Brooklyn.
