Golomb - The Beat Goes On (2025)

Golomb are a three-piece from Columbus, Ohio, channelling Midwest friction into a raw and restless set of songs. On The Beat Goes On, Mickey Shuman (vocals/guitar), Xenia Shuman (bass/guitar), and Hawken Holm (drums) tear through blustery psych repetition in the vein of Loop, while locking into taut, off-kilter grooves that recall the Pixies at Fort Apache.

Echoes of Dayton run through the album, with tracks like ‘Real Power’ nodding to the clatter and clarity of Guided By Voices. ‘Dog’ builds from a slow, slinking crawl to a scorched climax of noise and feedback, laced with Burroughs-style lyrical cut-ups and Spiritualized-like grandeur. The title track swings with a loose Velvets-inspired shuffle, while ‘Other Side of the Earth’ dips into dub without losing the band’s ragged edge.

‘Be Here Now’ winds chiming guitars around its rhythm section like early Built to Spill, eventually drifting into the ether on Henry Ross’s spiralling sax. Unpolished and unpredictable, The Beat Goes On is a jagged, joyful burst of sonic exploration.
