Itara is the debut solo album by guitarist, composer, and anthropologist Paul Pèrrim, featuring a vivid fusion of hallucinatory acid folk, abstract blues, mutant Eastern jazz, surreal ambient, and free improvisation. With a background in ethnomusicology and a degree in Music Education, Pèrrim explores the tension between the acoustic guitar’s restraint and the expansive potential of electric textures, drawing from late ’60s folk, contemporary fingerstyle, drone, psychedelia, sound collage, and improvisation.
A key figure in the Canary Islands’ experimental music scene, Pèrrim previously released two albums with the Catalan collective The Transistor Arkestra, blending free jazz and psychedelia. Under his solo moniker Transistor Eye, he combines analog electronics and guitar with vintage synths and effects. In 2022, he gained wider attention through his appearances on Manos Ocultas (Philatelia Records) and Solstice: A Tribute to Steffen Basho-Junghans (Obsolete Recordings), and launched GUITARRACO, a contemporary guitar festival in Tarragona. The album was recorded and produced by Pèrrim and includes liner notes by critic Bill Meyer.
