Massive Attack - Inertia Creeps (1998/2025)

The Inertia Creeps single is Massive Attacks' final single from their album Mezzanine. It is the most complete of all of the singles issued from Mezzanine. Three remixes take the title track into two unique directions which ensure replay value. Surprisingly, no Mad Professor remixes are featured, in favor of three fresh and distinct looks at "Inertia Creeps." Each mix has a very different feel, but does not stray all that far from the original. The "Manic Street Preachers Version" gives the track a rock feel that sounds just as viable as any electronica-based remix. The vocals stay intact, but are given a much more determined sound by the accompanying music. "The State of Bengal Mix" ties Indian folk instruments into the mix, taking the track in almost the opposite direction of "The Manic Street Preachers Version." "Inertia Creeps" is given an even more stylized groove that sounds like true world music reminiscent of Bill Laswell's successful fusions. "The Alpha Mix" is a calm, serene mix that sounds more fit for a lounge than any other version of the sound. It is a relaxed mix that adds one more style to a well-rounded single. Massive Attack offers up a dub version of "Inertia Creeps" in the track entitled "Back/She Comes." It is a very good dub version which is firmly locked in the groove of "Inertia Creeps." "Reflection" is a noisy rare track that doesn't have the flow of Massive Attack's album tracks, but is still of equal interest to the rest of the single. Between 1990-1998, Massive Attack has never made a single that was more interesting and unmatched in style.
