With their third album Ilmateade ("Weather Forecast"), Estonian duo Duo Ruut continues to impress with their refined musical sensibility and ability to turn the everyday into poetry. After four years of touring and artistic growth, the duo presents a record where the personal and universal intertwine with elegant simplicity.
The album title is more than a metaphor—each track evokes the mood and atmosphere of a particular day or weather pattern, becoming a metaphor for emotional transitions and life changes. Musical themes of wind, sunlight, and rain mirror internal states of being.
Staying true to their signature style—sharing one zither, intimate vocal harmonies, and organic minimalism—Ilmateade also reflects a growing openness to the world, with hints of travel, foreign languages, and global influences. Despite this, the album retains a warm, close-up, almost chamber-like sound.
Produced by José Diogo Neves (his third time working with the duo) and visually shaped by artist Marili, the album was released on the group’s own label, Duo Ruut Music, and is available on vinyl, CD, and digitally.
