Tāmaki Makaurau-based musician and prolific songwriter Paul Cathro is set to release his new album, Catapult – a collection of honest, personal indie pop gems – on 13 June.
Originally hailing from Dunedin, Paul has a rich musical history, having played in bands like Alizarin Lizard and Biff Merchants before co-founding Ha The Unclear with his brother, Michael Cathro. While he is best known for his work with Ha the Unclear, Paul has regularly released music as a solo artist.
On Catapult he is joined by Charmain Keay (Auckland Philharmonia) on violin, Joshua Worthington-Church (Princess Chelsea) on bass and Jamie Hannah (Spawts) on drums. Together, they create 11 high-energy, guitar-driven, quirky power pop tracks. The album was engineered at Mezzanine Studios by Edward Castello, mixed by Andrew Straight and expertly mastered by William Bowden. To celebrate this exciting release, Paul will be playing a show with guests The Protection and Work.
Cathro’s songwriting and vocals… comes across like a Kiwi Jarvis Cocker; nerdy, awkward, anxious, overthinking, and capable of delivering some of the most skewed lyrical wonders. The music is also like a thrillingly adventurous mix of Pulp and another UK band Squeeze. - PopLib
