From the dusty streets of Shutka and the gloomy courtyards of Sarajevo, from the fairs of Belgrade and the salty alleys of Thessaloniki and Alexandria, something new is emerging—the Balkan Voodoo Orchestra. This is not just a band, but a 14-piece musical ritual, bringing together musicians from Alexandria, Tel Aviv, Beirut, Rajasthan, Paris, and the Balkans. Their music is not world music, but otherworldly music — a transcendent blend of cultures, genres, and states of mind.
It is a wild brass band, powerful drums, electric guitars with “desert dust,” and vocals that bring tears to your eyes. The music sounds as if Fela Kuti staged a riot at a gypsy wedding and Lee Scratch Perry mixed it under the moon.
The debut album is a musical journey through joy, sorrow, rebellion, and memory. Each composition is like a scene from a lost Balkan myth: a wedding, a funeral, and a revolution in one dance. The album features unique guests:

The Ufoslavians – intergalactic gypsy reggae innovators,
Stereo Partizan (in the spirit of Besh o drom) – with a psychedelic folk approach,
Doggy Brasco – outlaw star of the Neo Rodeo genre, with a song about “funeral love.”
