Hallelujah the Hills formed in Boston in 2005 after the breakup of The Stairs. Led by singer-songwriter Ryan Walsh and drummer Eric Meyer, the band was named after the 1963 cult film by Adolphus Mekas. The original lineup included Walsh, Meyer, David Bentley (cello, guitar), Joe Marrett (bass), and Matt Brown (synths, samples, guitar, melodica).
On June 13, 2025, Hallelujah the Hills will release DECK, their most ambitious project to date: a 52-song collection spread across four full albums, one song for each card in a standard deck, plus two bonus "joker" tracks. Each album represents a suit:

Spades – darker, more experimental songs
Diamonds – lush, orchestral-style tracks
Clubs – upbeat, energetic rock
Hearts – songs of love, memory, and emotion
The two jokers remain a secret until release.

DECK was conceptualized by Ryan Walsh 25 years ago and seriously developed beginning in 2022. Over 2.5 years, the band wrote and recorded all 52 songs. Walsh calls DECK not just an album but an artistic statement, reimagining what an album can be in the digital age.

Listeners are encouraged to shuffle and mix the songs like cards, creating their own listening experience — resulting in 635 billion possible combinations. Guest musicians include Clint Conley, Craig Finn, Ezra Furman, and Cassie Berman.
