Nordkraft Big Band - Strangers to Ourselves (2024)

For several years now, Nordkraft Big Band has distinguished itself as one of the country's most active, visionary and serious ensembles within contemporary rhythmic music and enjoys wide recognition nationally and internationally for its releases, concerts and efforts in establishing and developing ensemble music - not least its dissemination to children and young people. On October 4, their new album "Strangers to Ourselves", which was created in collaboration with the American composer, multi-instrumentalist and chief conductor Remy Le Boeuf, will be released.

In October 2023, Nordkraft Big Band and Remy Le Boeuf met at the beautiful old Voergaard Castle in Northern Denmark to record new, original music, composed by Remy for Nordkraft Big Band. In his work on writing the music, Remy has drawn inspiration from the many unique impressions from his stays in Denmark and Northern Denmark.

The album is the result of several years of collaboration between the Big Band and Remy, and helps to document the Grammy-nominated musician's time as chief conductor of the North Jutland big band, where he has left his mark on the North Jutland and Danish jazz scene. Remy is the youngest conductor in the Big Band's history, and he joins an orchestra in full development, embracing new interesting inputs and a more modern approach to big band music.
