The 39th Festival International Nuits d’Afrique de Montréal, taking place from July 8 to 20, will be diverse, authentic, and joyful, in the image of the Franco-Brazilian Flavia Coelho, performing at the opening concert, and the incomparable Meiway at the closing concert. True to its mission, the Festival will showcase the best of music from Africa, the Antilles, and Latin America. For 13 days, 120 concerts and activities with over 700 artists from some thirty countries will resonate across 6 performance venues and two free outdoor stages in the heart of the Quartier des spectacles. After listening to hundreds of concerts throughout the year, particularly during the Acoustic Cabarets and Syli d’or at Club Balattou, and participating in international professional meetings, the Festival presents a balanced and varied program that paints a current portrait of world music. From the Gnawa rhythms of Saïd Mesnaoui to those of Bab L’Bluz, from the afrobeat of Femi Kuti to that of Aunty Rayzor, from the cumbia of Raíz Viva to that of KillaBeatMaker, from the kompa of Baz Konpa to the shatta of Blaiz Fayah, Nuits d’Afrique is a privileged witness to the evolution of genres and the globalization of rhythms.
A launching pad for local artists and an open door to North America for international artists, the Festival International Nuits d’Afrique continues to play its role in the development, promotion, and rayonnement of world music.
