"Angels of the Universe," directed by Fredrik Thor Fridriksson, is a highly successful Icelandic film that has garnered international attention. Its soundtrack, released on Sigur Rós's Krunk label, was primarily composed by Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson, with Sigur Rós contributing two tracks, "Bium Bium Bambaló" and "Dánarfregnir Og Jardarfarir," previously found on their deleted "Ny Batterí" EP. These Sigur Rós tracks are based on a popular Icelandic lullaby and national radio funeral announcements, respectively. Hilmarsson, a prolific Icelandic film composer, brings a poignant touch to the score, particularly as the film's protagonist is the real-life brother of writer Einar Mar Gudmundsson and a friend of Hilmarsson. Adapted from Gudmundsson's award-winning novel, the film delves into themes of madness and destruction, marking the fourth collaboration between Gudmundsson and Fridriksson. Both Fridriksson and Gudmundsson are celebrated figures in Icelandic arts, with Fridriksson credited for establishing Icelandic cinema and Gudmundsson a highly respected Scandinavian writer.
