This new album by Loened Fall, highly anticipated for over ten years, marks the group's return with the arrival of Ronan Le Dissez on the talabarder. Delayed first by a band member's health issues and then by the Covid crisis, the project was finally brought to fruition with a renewed appetite, both on stage and in the studio. This energy is reflected in Loened Fall's new tracks, which more than ever delve into a "gravity within the celebration"—sometimes intimate joy, sometimes liberating rage—the hallmark of a successful dañs-tro (round dance). This is the meaning behind the album's title, an allusion to the proverb "Al loened fall zo start da lac’ho": bad beasts are hard to kill—a phrase said with a smile to congratulate someone on their recovery or endurance.
Loened Fall owes this resilience, which allows them to celebrate the long tradition of traditional music, to a "family" of musician friends who regularly lend their support. It was natural to invite two of their most consistent companions to participate in this album: singer Nolùen Le Buhé and violinist Pierre Stéphan, both rich with three decades of diverse experiences.
Nolùen Le Buhé will also join Marthe Vassallo for one of the two "breathers" recorded in the studio: two melodic miniatures that will bring the poetic sound of the Dulcitone (a rare 19th-century keyboard, similar to a celesta) and the breath of a great binou player, Jean Baron, Ronan Le Dissez's "partner." These two tracks are conceived as those moments in the middle of a celebration when you step out of the room to breathe some calm, fresh air... before diving back into the dance with renewed vigor.
