Spanish/Italian trio Efrén López, Ciro Montanari, and Jordi Prats (formerly 3,14) return with their second album, MEL — a genre-blurring musical journey rooted in Indian classical, Ottoman, Persian, and Mediterranean traditions. Inspired by everything from Afghan folk and medieval European melodies to Cretan dance and Indian bandish, MEL is both a tribute to the bee and its honey and a continuation of their exploration of modal music across cultures.
Unlike their debut Bombyx Mori, which was highly curated, MEL embraces spontaneity and organic growth, developed patiently over two years. The result is a more daring, freer, and mature sound that remains deeply respectful of tradition while allowing for improvisation and evolution.
With contributions from guest artists like Azam Ali and Miriam Encinas, MEL expands its sonic textures while maintaining its core identity.
