Departure. As the name suggests, is a collection that marks the first steps on a new musical journey for Eva. She states ‘departure encapsulates the dual nature of self-growth; it can be an amazing experience but it can also be scary. Evolution isn’t always visible, sometimes it’s just sitting with your feelings or processing things that have happened. As we get older we evolve and grow, we can’t judge ourselves for the ways in which things happen and we can’t control it, it might feel quite negative or unexpected sometimes but it all happens for a reason’. Taking nods from the spirituality of Laraaji and Alice Coltrane and the technical skills of Dorothy Ashby, Departure is also a shift away from the stylings of her debut album, Sonics and Meditations, released in 2023 via Bella Union.
Eva Lunny started playing the Harp aged 11 learning classical and folk pieces, as well as harp music from Paraguay. Although classically trained, it wasn’t until the introduction of a pickup microphone to her harp that she was able to forge the distinctive spacey sounds that she has become known for. Eva has since gone on to open for shows supporting the likes of Poppy Ackroyd, John Francis Flynn and Explosions in the Sky
