The music on the album evolved through an organic, collective writing process. According to guitarist and singer Tommy Jonson, “All the lyrics were written to communicate the stories, challenges and aspirations of our times. The words were always informed by the energy of the music.”

The band recorded the album themselves in a self-built studio on a piece of land where three of the members lived.

Saxophonist David Boyce said: “At times it's reflective, dark and brooding, though it puts forward an optimistic message about the uplifting potential of personal and social evolution.”

Speaking about the first single, Master Healer, he explains: “We took inspiration from the mythological archetype of a healer. The song explores shamanic echoes from the ancestral past.”

While Master Healer features fanfare-like horns and hypnotic rhythms, Oceans reflects the influence of early ’90s grunge that the band grew up listening to. “I wrote the song towards the end of lockdown, just as people were starting to socialise again,” says Jonson. “I wanted to reflect the contrasting feelings people were having at the time—this somewhat ‘suspicious’ fear that had developed around being near people, but also the joy we all experienced from having our freedom back.”
