Alma Elste took her time before revealing her new record, Welcoming The Maze, four years after her beautiful EP The Story Of Alma.
Ten airy tracks, somewhere between lo-fi pop and folk ballads, on which she showcases the full range of her craft. Writing music since the age of 16, she hopes to strike a kind of balance here. Between catchy melodies and more introspective or daring pieces.
Long influenced by classical music, jazz, and indie pop, as well as singing, poetry, and literature, Alma Elste grew up listening to everything from John Lennon and Mozart to Radiohead and Joy Division. A firm believer in the alliance of artistic disciplines and in the cultural importance of both voice and thought, she admires artists like Nick Cave, Beach House, and Feu! Chatterton, and places herself within that same artistic and emotional rigor.
With this album, she seeks to offer a true panorama that reflects who she is.
