What does Trier have to do with the desert ?
Actually, nothing, except for three guys, brothers in spirit; these caught the gene of kyuss and the gloomy dry dessert Rock very early. Fab (bass), Jan (guitar) and Jones (drums) have found each other in the Trier area. They then found the groove in the rehearsal room, a mixture of the bluesy origin of ZZ Top, the hardness of Kyuss, who are considered the pioneers of the desert sound and the 70s power of Zeppelin, Purple and Co. In addition, there is an uncanny joy and wit in playing, which is reflected in the different songs.

The driving opener "Long Way Down" leads us into this animal world. Without giving the slightest doubt that it could get boring here. "Bad Girl" goes into full swing and in "Hang Em Up", their first single, drummer Jones drives the band again and again. A fat, riff-laden party song that invites you to rock and shout along.
Powerful riffs and straight melodies are the trademarks of the band, they themselves call their own sound as "Dark Western Stoner Blues". And it comes out of the boxes so dry and crisp.

The band has been around since 2019 and has so far gained a lot of live experience throughout the region and the guys know how to inspire the audience with their driving sound. An EP from 2022, "Dawner", proved to Animal where the whole thing can lead in the studio. Then I asked where the name animal actually came from? It was created simply out of a beer mood; after the first sessions. As simple as it is ingenious, they thought to themselves. And that's the way it is!

Polyphonic vocals are always incorporated in a song-useful way, especially in the choruses, so they sound even fatter. In "Keep Sweet", her second single release, this comes into its own particularly well. Calm the prelude with the first verse, before the band explodes at the chorus, where they loudly demand the 'sweet' "in the name of the Lord, let me take your hand"! A strong song, in which the singer really knows how to prove himself – a fireworks of moods.
A touch of Motörhead flows into "Entropy"; without frills, without compromises, always full throttle straight out. The "Execution Song" ends the album with a grippy board. Sir, yes, sir!

Powerful, fresh and pure energy. A very cool mix of jam-like heavy Stonersound with dry western humor and melodious vocals makes Animal special and that stands out from the whole gayness of many other stonerbands. "Backwood Blues" is an entertaining, good album that really makes you want to go to a live concert of the band. And after all, live shows are the hobby horse of Tier.
