From Pasculli’s exhilarating Three Characteristic Studies to the charm of Zequinha de Abreu’s Tico-Tico no Fubá, Klein pushes technical boundaries to harness the full range of the instrument. This work is a personal victory for Klein as well as an artistic one; after leaving his role as Principal Oboe with the Chicago Symphony due to focal dystonia, Klein overcame these challenges, returned to his former position, and pulled off what Chicago Magazine called “one of the greatest comebacks of classical music.” Likewise, TAMING THE IMPOSSIBLE invites listeners to challenge their own limitations.
