South African-born author/singer-songwriter, Luke Beling, grew up listening to music from the 60s and 70s, influenced by records his father played and the surrounding struggle of his native country. Beling believes art should embody the miracle and labor of life. Everyday tales borne from world wandering, Beling's songs and stories hope to impart something honest.
Perhaps it has something to do with having recently reached my 40s or because lately, I've been seeing more of life through the eyes of my four young daughters; it feels that much of what society encourages us to chase, believe, achieve, and become is nothing more than a parlor trick.
My second full-length album explores this idea: the fleeting things we pursue in hopes of happiness.
Sonically, I teamed up with Eugene-based producer Tyler Fortier (Jeffrey Martin- One Go Around). We embraced electric guitars and a bigger band sound to help relay the stories in these songs.
I'm really proud of this album. I hope it takes you to someplace good.
