Music history and reference volumes were written almost exclusively ‘by men, for men, about men’ pianists. Naxos redresses this imbalance by presenting a comprehensive multi-compact disc anthology of historic performances by pioneering women pianists of the first half of the twentieth century, beginning with the present volume. Each pianist will be represented by one exemplary selection, with detailed information on both the artist and the recording.
