Inspired by the romance of folk's golden era — think beatniks, hitchhiking and hopping freight trains — Cameron's first full-length is music that comes from the heart and is meant to be shared around the campfire or in the comfort of rural candlelight.
Despite the influence of nature, the material was recorded at Toronto's Revolution Recording with Kim Cooke and some help from Joe Dunphy and Jack Clow.
And although there's an undeniable folkiness to her sound, Cameron's influences are wide-ranging. "I have always felt an affinity for music that comes from the street or other places of conflict," she said in a statement, going on to note a "respect for music that admires the resourcefulness of struggling people and demonstrates a distrust for authority."
These themes permeate Sad-Eyed Lonely Lady, combining classic folk influences with a unique sense of modern Canadiana. The album arrives on September 23 via Pheromone Recordings, but you can give it an early listen in the player below.
