The Moonlandingz are back, seven long years after their debut. When they first emerged from Valhalla Dale, they were a semi-fictional band who gave us solace and punishment in the months following the Brexit vote and Trump's first election victory with sticky, sludgy pop songs. Adrian Flanagan, Dean Honer and Lias Saoudi aka The Moonlandingz had conspired with Yoko Ono, Rebecca Taylor, Phil Oakey and the cowboy from The Village People to make one of the greatest albums of 2017, and we needed it.
Now this crazy quartet are back, on their four horses on, bareback and howling, with an album called 'No Rocket Required'. The album delivers cheeky shrieks, motorik twitches and eerie vocals from an array of once again notable guest vocalists: Nadine Shah, Iggy Pop, Jessica Winter and Ewen Bremner. Plus, of course, The Moonlandingz frontman Johnny Rocket aka Lias Saoudi, who has the shaky-horny voice of the R Whites' secret lemonade drinker on 'Give Me More' and then becomes the Pennines' Kris Kristofferson in the middle of the epic 'Krack Drought Suite', spouting gnomic sawdust saloon wisdom from a bar stool in Huddersfield. Mostly, though, he's the man we know from the Fat White Family, with gravelly vocals (particularly effective in 'Roustabout', his duet with Nadine Shah) and the camp singer of the Working Men's Club, Syd Minsky-Sargeant.
Tracklist:
1 Some People's Music
2 The Sign of A Man
3 Roustabout
4 The Insects Have Been Shat On
5 It's Where I'm From
6 All Out Of Pop
7 Yama Yama
8 Give Me More
9 Stink Foot
10 The Krack Drought Suite (Pts 1-3)
