"Like an echo from another dimension, Elf Freedom’s Visions of Utopia is a 34-minute odyssey through sound—a fully improvised psychedelic ethereal folk composition that defies time and space. This is music born from pure spontaneity, an ecstatic transmission of an ideal world—one where harmony, beauty, and transcendence reign. Recorded in a single take inside a government-funded cultural center in the tiny village of Lindesberg, Sweden, the album emerged as if conjured from the ether. Having spent weeks performing freeform psychedelic folk throughout Europe, Nora Keyes and Bee Appleseed, founders of Elf Freedom, found themselves in an altered state—tuned into the frequencies of the unknown. What poured out that day was a musical séance, shifting between rapturous euphoria and stark reflections on the dilemmas of our modern world. Improvised lyrics channel visions of a utopian consciousness while simultaneously acknowledging the chaos and fractures of reality.
After the initial recording, layers of sound were added, bringing in talented Swedish musicians who happened to be present in the studio, and later, in Los Angeles, close collaborators who helped expand the album’s sonic landscape during the pandemic. However, beauty and grief intertwined. The album carries the spirit of Bradley Bailey, a dear friend, prolific songwriter, and collaborator who sang, played jingle bells, keys, and duduk—before tragically passing as he grappled with depression and addiction in 2021 due to unknowingly injesting fentanyl. More than an album, Visions of Utopia is an experience. Utilizing techniques of sound healing and binaural beats, it aims to release stress and transport the listener into its lush, surreal world. It is at once a dream and a reckoning—a transmission from a future that we hope to reach, a sonic prayer that keeps the dream alive in the darkness."
