Howard Shore reunites with his faithful Canadian filmmaker, David Cronenberg, after "Crimes of the Future" (2022) in an intimate vein dealing with the mourning of a businessman (Vincent Cassel), a fan of new technologies, who invented a system allowing him to connect to the deceased in their graves. From the drama concerning the loss of a loved one to the investigation (the search for the culprits who vandalized the graves), mixing espionage and conspiracy, the film advances in a spectral manner, populated by its ghosts, as if the character were part of the other world, devitalized by his grief. The music, with its synthetic notes, offers enveloping textures like a shroud, extending in time, contributing to a certain stagnation of the story, and inviting us to concentrate on the words, on exchanges that raise existential questions that end up bewitching, fascinating and moving.
