After leaving Capitol Records in 1966, Kay Starr released a standout album on ABC Records, the first of just five studio albums she recorded between 1967 and 1981. Though often known for novelty singles, Starr was a discerning interpreter of pre-WWII storytelling songs, often avoiding more typical standards by composers like Kern or Gershwin. This ABC album includes fresh renditions of classics like "My Melancholy Baby" and "You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You," as well as poignant wartime ballads and 1960s hits such as "Sunny" and "Only When You're Lonely." The highlight is "I Don’t Remember You" from Broadway’s The Happy Time, showcasing Starr's emotional depth. The album, arranged by Marty Paich and produced by Bob Thiele, is praised for its storytelling and glossy production. Starr continued performing live into her 90s, with Live at Freddy’s (1986) marking her final and only live recording.
