Cet album live est d’abord sorti en 1976 sous le titre In Concert from Newcastle et édité en CD sous le titre In the Beginning. Il s’agit du premier enregistrement public édité des Animals, enregistré le 30 décembre 1963 au Club A Go-Go dans leur ville natale de Newcastle. Ce soir-là, les Animals accompagnaient le bluesman Sonny Boy Williamson (II), puis occupaient la scène pour leur show habituel.
Les morceaux enregistrés avec Williamson ont été une première fois publiés sous le titre Sonny Boy Williamson and the Animals (live ’63) en 1977, puis sous celui de The Animals With Sonny Boy Williamson en 1981 et 88. Ce disque ne contient que la partie des seuls Animals. Les deux parties sont incluses dans la réédition CD The Animals With Sonny Boy Williamson parue en 1988, mais dans une qualité inférieure.
