Roope Kantonen - Introducing (2025) Hi-Res

Roope Kantonen 3 presents a new, unique sound in Finnish jazz at its album release concert. The trio brings an original sound to the stage, where the accompaniment is complemented by the eccentric timbre of the bass clarinet instead of harmony instruments. Their debut album Introducing (Flame Jazz Records) takes the listener to a world that combines freedom, sensitivity, intense improvisation and dynamic ensemble playing.

The trio's music draws influences from traditional jazz, modern musical language and experimental elements. The album features compositions from the pen of each band member, and the songs offer the listener a diverse journey from deeply meditative moments to explosive rhythmic joy.

The band's leader, Turku-based drummer, composer and teacher Roope Kantonen, was awarded the Jazz Musician of the Year 2022 by the Jazz Musicians Association. Kantonen, who graduated with a master's degree in jazz music from the Amsterdam Conservatory, is a musician who has created an international career and has also taken an active role in the Helsinki jazz scene, including as the jam host of Sörkan Ruusu.

Kantonen's trio is complemented by top musicians Max Zenger and Juuso Rinta, who are known for their personal way of interpreting their own instruments both as leaders of their own bands and in the ranks of many of the hottest ensembles of the moment.
