Abbie Cardwell's new album Love Is An Amplifier is a heartfelt experience and the result of a profoundly transformative journey over the past decade—one that demanded patience, introspection, and a deep surrender to time, life, death and healing.
After a hiatus from songwriting for several years, Abbie returned to it purely as medicine for her soul, spurred on by a songwriting club prompt that encouraged her to write a song for someone else—a prompt she ultimately turned inward, writing a song for herself and all those aching to create. Her father's passing, a relationship breakup, her voracious appetite for existential questioning, alchemy, the world stage and the loss of her beloved dog were all in the mix influencing the album's emotional tapestry.
It's a vibrant sonic ride, blending influences from Abbie's musical past with fresh, innovative new electronic sounds. Husha Husha introduces dreamy Americana textures, while Love Is An Amplifier delivers a rockier edge. Just What You Love slows things down with a tender, introspective ballad born from Abbie’s own creative drought. A playful nod to an 80's Prince may be heard in The Little Things, while a seeming 'kids song' reduces the rules of life into The Game, inviting us to ask "In the face of it all, how do you love?" Vintage moments woven with acoustic instruments, modern beats, and soulful Americana pedal steel somehow filter through Abbie's heart into a cohesive whole.
Produced by long-time collaborator Matthew Engelbrecht, Love Is An Amplifier delivers Abbie's music into a new expansive era with a far wider aperture than ever before. It’s creation was an alchemical process within her soul and her music simultaneously.
This album is her invitation to tune into the heart & remember what we are all made of; love really is an amplifier.
