Jimmy McGriff - Black and Blues (2024 Remastered Version) (1971)

For this set by Jimmy McGriff, the organist utilizes Bill Easley (one of his discoveries, heard here on alto and tenor) and veteran trombonist Al Grey in his frontline, along with guitarist Melvin Sparks and drummer Bernard Purdie. They perform three standards, including long versions of "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" and "Secret Love," along with an obscurity and a couple of basic originals. Even when the chord changes are quite a bit different, the music is infused with the blues and consistently swings, which is typical of a Jimmy McGriff session.
