Reissue, Remastered of the 1966 Album
Originally released in 1966, Save for a Rainy Day is a concept album by surf-pop duo Jan & Dean, recorded in a garage studio alongside some of L.A.’s most celebrated session musicians—notably in the garage of bassist Joe Osbourne, a neighbor of Dean Torrence.
Best known as one of the pioneering acts of 1960s California "surfer" music, Jan & Dean stand alongside The Beach Boys as genre-defining artists. In fact, Jan Berry sang lead vocals on the Beach Boys’ 1966 hit “Barbara Ann”.
Unlike their earlier carefree beach anthems, Save for a Rainy Day was an ambitious and atmospheric concept album, with all tracks centered around the theme of rain. The songs are interwoven with thunderstorm sound effects, giving the album a cinematic and cohesive feel that marked a bold departure from their previous work.
This reissue brings new life to a uniquely creative and overlooked gem in Jan & Dean’s discography.
