The Bee Gees are an English pop group formed by three brothers, Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb and Maurice Gibb. During their 45-year career, the Gibb brothers had 19 number-one songs in the US charts, making them the only band besides The Beatles to have five songs in the US Top 10 at the same time (on 4 March 1978: Love Is Thicker Than Water (1) by Andy Gibb, Stayin' Alive (2), Emotion (4) by Samantha Sang, Night Fever (5) and How Deep Is Your Love (10)). They have won multiple Grammy Awards, sold over 120 million albums worldwide, and sold nearly 200 million records, including singles.

They have won 7 Grammy Awards and been nominated for 8 Grammy Awards. They received a lifetime achievement award, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Barry Gibb into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. They received significant awards not only as musicians, but also as music producers.

The Gibb brothers wrote more than 1,000 songs, and their songs were played and sung by world celebrities such as Elvis Presley, Janis Joplin, Bonnie Tyler, Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, Samantha Sang, Dionne Warwick, Céline Dion, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton and Cliff Richard.

Their music was primarily influenced by The Beatles, The Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly and the Mills Brothers. Many of the defining songs of the disco era are also associated with their names.

In early 2003, Maurice fell ill, was hospitalized and died on January 12. His funeral was held on January 15, 2003. On 22 January, Robin and Barry announced that Maurice's death would also mean the end of the Bee Gees, as "the third member was irreplaceable". On 23 February 2003, the Bee Gees accepted the Grammy Award, which they had received in 2002, for their lifetime achievement. On 12 May 2004, the Bee Gees were made honorary members of the Music from Manchester University, and on 22 June, "Staying Alive" was voted one of the top 10 film scores of all time. Robin died of cancer on 20 May 2012.
