Diskotopia welcomes long-time associate Niikkolahs to the fold with his debut EP Modes – a striking and singular missive of polyrhythmic percussion, dub-indebted basslines, and outer-dimension sonics.

Inspired by the cycles of creation in nature — evolution and rebirth on both micro and macro scales — Niikkolahs translates this concept into percussive-led psychic(al) incursions, beginning a quest that draws parallels between the human experience of the past with consciousness-led days yet to come.

Prismatic whirlwinds of phased strings, locked-groove rhythms, and a soulful low-end formulate opener ‘Refractions’, while the biotech funk of ‘Bridges’ examines the unseen. The initial density in ‘Axiom’ is offset by a swirling and psychedelic latter half that opens like light through stained glass.

Crystalized synths, vibrant hand drums, and insistent basslines propel ‘Continentals’ into time zones of yet-unknown origins. ‘Equilibrium’ bends and stretches time within an earthen lattice. The frenetic title track ‘Modes’ bubbles with carnival-like timbre, encoding its cadence to a faith in energy.
